This house was built with local stone by Michael Braun in 1766.  It is the last remaining colonial structure in the County.  Michael immigrated to Pennsylvania from before settling here.  At that time this area was unsettled, covered in heavy thicket (rather than forests as generally thought).  It is worth noting that this grand structure was not typical of the period.

Did you know that Pennsylvania Dutch were not from the Netherlands?  This term refers to the original German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania, mainly from the 18th century.
